The Irish newspaper, Sunday Independent, has revealed that Activision has purchased the middleware developer DemonWare. Now, while DemonWare may not be familiar to gamers, many of the most popular current Xbox Live games, such as Rainbow Six: Vegas, Call of Duty 3 and Saint´s Row, use DemonWare´s software for multiplayer matchmaking and lobbies.
No exact sum for the purchase has been disclosed, but Sunday Independent speculates that the sum might be up to €15 million. If the deal turns out to be true, Activision would get an exclusive access to DemonWare´s products – leaving publishers such as THQ, Ubisoft, Sega and Atari in the cold.

The companies haven´t confirmed the report as of yet.
